SPRING SALE OF SHEEP DOGS



 
Alec Baines with Tan Hill Patsy the highest priced dog at 3200gns.
Tan Hill Patsy a 26 mnth old smooth coated black and white bitch from Cumbrian handler Alec Baines of Kirkby Stephen proved top dog on the day.
With 25 nursery season placings and the highest pointed norther dog by a full 50%, Patsy headed the selling prices at 3200gns (£3360) and will remain in Cumbria after joining John Richardson of Dufton, Appleby.
John Bell of Parks Farm, Howden who has topped the selling prices a record 11 times in eight years of selling dogs at Skipton was pipped at the post with his 14 mnth old black & white youngster "Bill" was knocked down for 3100gns (£3255).
A further six dogs achieved prices in excess of 2000gns, among them early in the day was another John Bell entry "Fern" a two year old bitch by DW Jones' Glen which looked the part when joining East Yorkshire based Roger Jewitt for 2650gns.
Aiden Gallagher from County Antrim produced a stylish 21 month old dog "Jim" to achieve another early highlight when sold to Shropshire buyer PS Wood of Ratlinghop, Shrewsbury for 2500gns.
A solid trial by the experienced 2005 registered tri-coloured dog "Don" handled by Robin Dean of Chipping resulted in a successful bid of 2300gns from a buyer from North Wales.
Retired farm manager Sandy Beaton of Nun Appleton, York presented the second prolific nursery trials winner, the three year old tri coloured dog "Moss" who picked up a total of 17 awards including two firsts in the 2007-08 season.  He sold for  2150gns to the internationally acclaimed sheep dog handler Thomas Longton of Quernmore.
Overall, on a busy day that saw 57 dogs change hands from a total of 73 dogs forward, there was considerable choice for the hugh following in attendance, with plenty of buyers for top-drawer well broken dogs. 
Broken dogs sold to 3200gns (av (£1455), broken Bearded Colllie bitch to 1500gns, part broken dogs to 800gns (av £476) and pups to 280gns (av £168).

RED PEDIGREE EVENT


Champion at the Red Pedigree Event was presented to Paul Fletcher, Heywood, with a March 2006 Lim Bull sired by Sarkley Viking and out of a homebred cow, purchased by D & S Hollings, Peckett Wells for the day's top price of 2900gns.
Reserve Champion for SM & RT Priestley, Denholme was secured by Brontemoor Bandaid, a July 2006 bull by Sultan, and selling for 2700gns  to GH West & Son, Fridaythorpe.
